Lifestyle Design with Koya Webb

Self-Discovery Through Fashion with Lauren Messiah

Episode Summary

In this episode of the Get Loved Up Podcast, Koya Webb welcomes Lauren Messiah, style expert, entrepreneur, digital influencer, educator, and author of Style Therapy: 30 Days to Your Signature Style. Lauren shares her entrepreneurial journey and how she has shifted from teaching people how to style, to teaching others how to start a successful and sustainable styling business. Not only did this empower her students more, it also gave her more satisfaction and fulfillment with her career. Lauren suggests that having a purpose should be at the core of a styling business. You cannot simply enter it because you think the clothes are pretty. In her style therapy, Lauren also teaches that women should learn to love their body for what it is and see the beauty of it as the body that has grown with you and weathered the highs and lows. She also shares the role of daily meditation in her practice and how she pre-plans her outfits to remove the stress and uncertainty over feeling good in your own clothes. And as Lauren struggled with alcohol, she also gives tips on how you can get sober too and change your life for the better.

QUOTES

04:20 "If you want to have a successful business that's sustainable, that's profitable, you have to have purpose. And you have to actually know how to be an entrepreneur, so I launched this program called Style Boss Academy that teaches people how to start an actual business, a purpose driven business."

12:34 "You can't just want to be a stylist because you think clothes are pretty and shopping's fun and everybody compliments your outfits... There's some reason that a seed was planted in you that said that you want to do this. And once you find out what that is and allow that to fuel you, then you can't not run your business."

22:43 "(See) a body that has gone through it and is still here. Have some love and appreciation for what you have. It's like with gratitude. If you're not grateful for what you have, you're telling the universe I don't want anymore."

43:22 "I would say for anyone who's out there who's struggling, find people that have what you want. Like I just surrounded myself. I had never met people that didn't drink when I was drinking. I'd never even heard of a sober person. I really didn't."
